Catching faults before the alarm: preventive monitoring

A conventional alarm goes off when the temperature limit is crossed. By then the product is already at risk and an emergency call-out is usually needed. Preventive monitoring catches the small changes that signal a fault days in advance.

In short: Refrigeration systems give signals before they fail. Each signal is small on its own, but tracked as a trend it clearly shows what is about to go wrong.

5 early signs of an approaching fault

01
Rising discharge pressurePoints to a dirty condenser or a condenser fan fault. The system does the same job with more energy, and in summer it can turn into a high-pressure trip.
02
Falling subcooling, rising superheatOne of the earliest signs that the charge is dropping, in other words a leak. A leak caught early lowers both gas and service costs and keeps your F-Gas records clean.
03
Longer defrost timesShows that icing on the evaporator is increasing or that there is a problem with the defrost heater.
04
Rising compressor duty cycleTells you the heat load has gone up: a door left open, damaged insulation or a dirty coil.
05
Short cyclingA compressor switching on and off too often points to a wrong differential setting or an electrical problem; it shortens equipment life quickly.

How does it work at Ecoolution?

  • Data: Controllers, pressure and temperature sensors and energy meters are read continuously.
  • Rules: For each site, preventive warning thresholds below the conventional alarm threshold and trend rules are defined.
  • Expert review: Warnings reach our monitoring team; the team interprets the data and sets priorities.
  • Response: If needed, settings are adjusted remotely or the field team is sent out on a planned visit.
Result: the fault becomes a planned maintenance job instead of an emergency call-out. The product is never at risk and service costs come down.
